I'm indebted to the delightfully-named website, Cumbria Crack News, for this factoid which might be of interest to the BBC Trust in its Delivering Quality First ruminations.
BBC Radio Cumbria has a reach of 36.4 per cent in its area, which is higher than all other local or national BBC radio services in the country. Around 150,000 Cumbrians a week listen to Radio Cumbria compared to the 88,000 who listen to Radio 4 – and while Radio Cumbria is facing 20% cuts, Radio 4 has had its budget protected.
Good point, well made.
In the last Rajar figures, Radio 4 nationally has a 12.40% share of its potential audience. This percentage, i.e. share within a given transmitter area, was beaten by Radios Cornwall, Cumbria, Derby, Merseyside, Norfolk, Shropshire, Stoke, Suffolk, Guernsey and Jersey.
