Service update

Apologies for iffy service last week. Flaky dongles and Swiss Alps made keeping in touch almost impossible - in one of the most sensational weeks ever for UK newspaper journalists.  I've particularly enjoyed Matthew d'Ancona's piece seeking parallels with Watergate.   Matthew says that, in the case of News of The World phone-hacking, the roles of Bernstein and Woodward go to MPs Tom Watson and Chris Bryant - and wonders whether or not they were helped by a "Lunchtime O'Throat".

Odds and ends to sweep up...

  • The BBC's Communications supremo, Ed Williams, is leaving his £225k salary behind for a job with global PR group Edelman.  Edelman are also coughing for Ed's £40k Harvard course - and his expensive looking travel arrangements.   Ed becomes CEO, Edelman UK.  He probably doesn't outrank Richard Sambrook, last year's Edelman signing from Auntie, as Chief Content Officer and Global Vice-Chairman.
  • Alex Connock, the Mike to Bob Geldof's Bernie Winters in Ten Alps, is leaving the indie production and publishing company.  Could he re-appear in a new role at MediaCityUK ?
  • Huw Edwards may or may not be one of the BBC talents on £500,000 a year - but he's still working hard on his total earnings - last Friday hosting the Motability Supplier Awards at Brocket Hall.
Rachel and Sarah with Huw Edwards @Motability's Supplier awards, winning Highly Commended Business Partner
