It's a coruscating cascade of announcements today from the BBC. Richard Deverell, currently being paid £225k as Chief Operating Officer, North, is leaving the post without having sat behind his new desk in anger at MediaCityUK. Thank God he only committed to renting in the area. His task henceforward is to run something called the W12 project. This clearly has the advantage for the Deverell family of being based in London W12, as the family home is near Guildford. However, it looks to be an immensely dull position, sorting out which buildings to close.
The change of heart from the always-enthusiastic-no-matter-what-the-job Richard looks very sudden. Just seven days ago he was announced as a key note speaker at the forthcoming Impact of MediaCityUK Conference.
Alice Webb, longer-term loyal lieutenant to Peter Salmon, is promoted to fill The Deverell Flag-Waving Gap in The North (BBC version).
