Odd that the BBC chooses to publish a raft of responses to FoI requests on the afternoon of the DG's "Delivering Quality First" presentation. Hey-ho.
Here's a good 'un. Between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010 TV Licensing sent approximately 65.7
million items of mail. There were 1.35m to addresses where the occupier said they did not need a TV licence; 5m to addresses where a licence was about to expire; 0.6m to addresses where someone had recently bought a tv; and 16m to inform people on direct debit of rises.
TV Licensing enquiry officers made 4.2 million visits in 2009/10; only 76,306 properties were confirmed as not needing a licence - 1.8%.
Between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010 approximately 5.8 million licences were purchased by
persons in premises which received reminder letters.
