There's a slight feeling of a continuous audition underway for top jobs at the BBC. Jana Bennett left as Director BBC Vision at the end of last year; Menna Richards left as Controller, BBC Wales shortly afterwards. There are, as yet, no signs of permanent replacements.
The Vision job was advertised in February, and applications closed nearly six weeks ago, on 1st March. In Cardiff, the process has been extended further, with Keith Jones starting as Interim Controller on 1st April.
Meanwhile, Caroline Thomson and Zarin Patel are still looking for massive savings in the organisation. So far, the big divisions have been playing the normal slow bicycle race - with Vision and Audio & Music in particular eyeing each other up for signs of weakness. But now George Entwistle, acting at Vision, and Tim Davie, for Audio & Music (but thought to be interested in Vision) have to come up with the goods that the DQF process has failed to deliver for 2012/13. And how well they do is likely to have an impact on their candidacies.
