BBC sports correspondent Kevin Gearey said farewell to bulletins last night with an elegant tail piece to the Ten O'Clock News, on the Australian Grand Prix. Inexplicably introduced by Mishal Hussein as a win for "Sebastian Fettel", Kevin took us round the course, condensing the key events of one and a half hours into one minute, via bus lanes, lawnmower routes, to see Vettel "home alone".
Despite some rule changes, Kevin's view was that "the formbook, as yet, remains unaltered". The BBC will need to find another with some pedigree in shot-calling and phrase-making if the news is to stay ahead of the pack in coverage of sporting events.
