There's a clearing-of-the-decks going on at BBC1, with Danny Cohen creating space, presumably for the arrival of "quality", which now, as we know, comes first.
So far, he's canned My Family, Outcasts, Lark Rise to Candleford, Zen, and Waking the Dead. QI gets sent to BBC2. In ? Well so far, we have Mrs Brown's Boys, for a second run of seven, jointly commissioned with RTE. There are short series dramas in the shape of a bit more Accused from Jimmy McGovern, and some more Sherlock.
I hope Danny's not relying on "Don't Scare the Hare" to make the new Chairman catch a bit more telly on a Saturday night. The game show, featuring a giant animatronic hare, is claimed to be an Endemol production, but was clearly developed by the Fast Show's Channel 9. Jason Bradbury is the host, but Miranda Hart has been brought in to do "commentary" - a trick tried with Richard Hammond on Total Wipeout. Delivering Quality First.
