It's getting serious at the BBC. Even "initiatives" are running tight on cash. COO Caroline Thomson is inviting staff to sessions to discuss the 20-25% cuts required by "Delivering Quality First", under the new banner "Bring Your Own Lunch". This clearly a different guideline to that issued to executives, channel controllers and commissioners, where any discussions with anyone else after midday are called "Claim Your Own Lunch".
In the last available three months, Mark Thompson claimed three business lunches, at £80.44, £94.50 and £100.13. HR chief Lucy Adams spent £160.31 on a lunch for senior leaders discussing a "succession plan". Zarin Patel spent £350 as "business entertainment external" on something called a "post project debrief meeting".
