Alan Titchmarsh is getting a new prime-time "lifestyle and gardening" show on ITV - but, if Horticulture Week is right, there'll be limited opportunity for fresh faces. They reckon daffy Alys Fowler is being lined up as one helper. She's consoled herself with tips in The Guardian since being dropped by the BBC. Some readers are not impressed. "Wash flower pots in the dishwasher; sieve and microwave compost; water seedlings with camomile tea… Does Alys Fowler realise how bonkers her advice sounds ?".
The other name in the frame is Charlie Dimmock, currently the "face" of mail-order website, Gardening Direct.
