Not so glossy

Where next for the clenched forehead and kiss-curl of Matt Frei ?  His staple income, BBC World News America, an hour long-show, is being taken from the schedule of BBC America, to be moved to two half-hour slots on BBC World News (as we noted here).    With his producer, Rome Hartman (former editor of the CBS Evening News), the BBC America product did not come cheap - but then BBC America at least has a budget.   Can the loss-making BBC World News really afford to sustain them both long-term ?

Matt's already added himself to the long-list waiting for Paxman's shoes at Newsnight, but that option's not really close enough.  Americana, his Radio 4 show, must fall eventually to the Trust's criticism of too much Yankee-stuff on the network - even if it survives, it's not going to produce a Frei-living wage. The transatlantic phone wires will be buzzing in the months ahead, as Matt seeks a new desk to look stern behind.
