If things are going to plan, we are only a matter of weeks away from a very significant re-configuration of the way BBC News is run. The Journalism "Directorate" ceases with the departure of creator and DDG Mark Byford (staying to help with the Royal Wedding, then off). Helen Boaden fills the void, but will simply be Director of News. So two management boards have to collapse into one (as this blog has noted previously) and exit strategies for the losers are being prepared.
There is, allegedly, considerable concern about the Byford workload and how it will be shouldered in future. I came across these samples of his diary via the excellent FoI site, What Do They Know, and whilst all is packed and neat looking, 11 appointments over a two week period are "routines" with his own board members. So maybe if the board goes, some of the work goes too ?
