It's not exactly prime time, but Controller Radio 2 Bob Shennan is continuing to trial hosts with a talk rather than music background, after the exhortations of the BBC Trust to up his speech content. Apparently there's no problem giving Andy Goldstein (currently appearing on TalkSPORT) the Janice Long night-time slot for a week. Andy followed Tim Lovejoy on Sky's SoccerAM, then appeared on Radio 5Live's Fighting Talk when Bob was Controller there (with sidekick Moz Dee, now running TalkSPORT).
Shy, retiring Andy has already embedded Radio 2 in pole position on his Twitter profile.
Meanwhile, in day-time, Simon Mayo seems to be bearing the brunt of the additional speech requirements of the network. He's doing his best, but needs someone sharper selecting the interviewees.
