Salford Council has granted outline planning permission for the proposed Oasis Academy, MediaCityUK. It's on a huge site bounded by Trafford Road, Broadway and King William Street. Councillors were not swayed by reports that doubted the numbers of place were needed - the current Academy, in Prestwood Road, has just over 500 pupils, but Oasis UK (founder and CEO Reverend Steve Chalke) wants to see 1,150 in the new media/IT/science/technology/arts/sports-focused building. Let's hope broadcasters, students and schoolchildren all behave nicely together on those yellow trams (currently seats for 52 plus 8 perches) in 2012.
