Product placement

Can you "seed " technology and new media expertise around the UK ?  David Cameron thinks so. He's going to get headlines today for "East London Tech City", with the use of just £200m of equity (previously announced).

Rory Cellan-Jones points out that scale is a problem.  Small start-ups with brilliant ideas soon get bought up by the real giants of Silicon Valley.  And wouldn't Cambridge (home of Autonomy and others) provide a better base to start ?   One suspects there also plenty of start-up space in the M4 "silicon corridor".

Meanwhile MediacityUK is probably feeling pretty left out - though Salford University have just hired a new PR team, and Peter Salmon keeps waving the flag.

Meanwhile, Tory geography remains dodgy.  For many young people in London, the Old Street roundabout is the centre of their night-time world. Going "East" requires getting on an overground train.  A better name is required.
