Liverpool's Lime Pictures (formerly Phil Redmond's Mersey TV) has won a slice of the BBC MediaCityUK action.
Lime's principal income is still Hollyoaks and its spin-offs, made on a ten-acre site in Childwall, but subsidiary Conker Media has now signed a partnership deal with the BBC to create a development and production centre at Salford Quays, to be known as the Digital Fiction Factory.
No report yet on the size of the operation, or the money involved, but plenty of meaningless buzz words in the announcement as reported by the Daily Post.
....creating contemporary digital fiction for drama, comedy and factual-fiction hybrids, the initiative will produce content that will play out on new and existing platforms including TV, radio, online, mobile and connected devices, as well as looking towards future and emerging platforms, such as iPTV. Social media and live events will also form part of the strategy from the outset. Peter Salmon, director of BBC North, said: “Digital Fiction Factory has the potential to redefine how the BBC engages with production companies and our audience in the digital space."
