The BBC News website has recently got a little more flamboyant, with the additional of little red annotations on headlines, saying "new". I can imagine the internal debate about the wisdom of getting this racy. Maybe one of the many senior editors finds it difficult to check when there's breaking news, and needs help to sort which of the 20 or so lead stories has been updated.






















I thought the website was updated every minute of the day, so philosophically, it's all new, isn't it ?

Or is it more "more" new when the day shift relieves the rather smaller night shift ?

I bet the style guide offering guidance as to when to remove "new" is as clear as mud.
