Three into one ?

Last week I added up salary details of the post-Byford remaining members of the BBC's Journalism Board.  It's only part of the story.  Helen Boaden runs a News Board and Peter Horrocks has a Global News Board.   Not all the salaries of the members of these two additional boards are disclosed, as they, presumably, fall below the £100k limit the bBC has set.  They also, for those who like structural diagrams, represent a lower tier of management, and therefore some members will not be "senior managers" as defined by the BBC.  They may be disappointed to hear this. (Their staff may be mildly surprised, and could even start cheeking them).

Nonetheless, Mark Thompson has come clean: putting the three boards together represents a real opportunity to save money.  This will be hard for the members of the Global News Board, only really crashed into one last year by Peter Horrocks, from even more "boards" running World Service and World TV.

Here's the bit from Thommo's Guardian article today: "In a couple of years, the World Service will be leaving Bush House and joining BBC News, our home news service, in a single news hub in Broadcasting House. With a simple funding model our news operation will be simpler to operate and will enable us to spend more on journalism and less on management and unnecessary duplication. But we will make sure that it also enables us to preserve and enhance the unique and irreplaceable character of the BBC World Service".
