How to win friends and...

The Big Issue (North) has produced a list of the 50 Most Influential Northerners.  And whilst it's a joy for MediacityUK fans to see John Whittaker, chairman of developers, The Peel Group, at Number One, there's no place for the man with the title BBC Director of The North, Peter Salmon.

The rules for eligibility are little vague.  "They didn’t have to be northerners by birth but they did need a base in the north. George Osborne’s Tatton constituency ruled him in; Scouser Sir Terry Leahy was ruled out because Tesco is headquartered in the south".

They must have judged that Peter, born in Burnley, is part of an organisation clearly "headquartered in the south", the BBC.   Or, it could be that one of the four judges, Allan Beswick (Breakfast host on BBC Radio Manchester) was unable to swing it for his new area manager....
