I feel tired. I thought I'd write a little about Felicity Goodey, 61, one of 12 members of the Coaliiton's newly-created £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund. This, however, is an incomplete profile.
Born in Plymouth, she studied at history at St Hugh's College, Oxford University, and then joined the BBC as a news trainee. After a start in radio in London reporting for the World At One, she moved to Manchester with File on Four, and leapt at the chance to be North West industrial correspondent - proudly the first woman appointed to such a role. As well as serious reporting and presenting, she clearly enjoyed being "straight woman" to Stuart Hall on Look North.
In 1994, she led Salford's bid for lottery funds to create the Lowry Ccentre - she's still life-President. Then
after 28 years with the BBC, she formed the Unique Group, a broadcast "indie", and, pulling industrial reporting experience together with business, became a director of the North West Development Agency. From there, she led the MediacityUK bid to convince her old employer, the BBC, to choose Salford Quays over a central Manchester site. The final decision was down to BBC Trustees, and in the opinion of some I've heard, she, and a film filled with bright-eyed children, "monstered" them with their obligations to the future. So if you're one of those on the move to Salford, quite a lot lays at her door.. ..
Meanhwile she's also chair of the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, the University of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, the Tourism Forum for the North West, the Northern Way's Private Investment Commission, and on the board of Creative Industries in Salford, and the SMART project of the First Steps Trust. And Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester. And has a few other letters she can add to her CBE. Hon LLD Univ of Manchester, Hon DLitt Manchester Met Univ, Hon DLitt Univ of Salford; hon fell: Bolton , Univ of Central Lancs; Hon FRIBA 2004, FRSA 2006.
And she blogs - about how work should be fun.
