It was a weekend to wave your exclusives around in the Sundays, as the News of The World snuck behind a paywall. The Sunday Times mugged a couple of FIFA reps, and BBC TV duly led at teatime (though someone got them back on the duty lead, George Osborne, at ten). The News of the World tried to tempt you with "Sexy X-Factor", claiming that Matt Cardle and Katie Waissel had shared a bed. Matt storms back today (in News International sister paper, The Sun) - we we're watching telly.
Unsung hero of the weekend is Simon Mullock of the Sunday Mirror, who said Rooney was ready to leave Old Trafford, and Alex Ferguson was ready to let him go. Unless, of course, Simon's wrong. Not a peep from the BBC about the possibility, until today.
