Iconoclast Richard Bacon seems back to his Blue-Peter-prior-to-cocaine best behaviour at the BBC, at least for John Plunkett's interview in The Guardian. Loving a 15% pay cut, bigging up 5Live Controller Adrian Van Klaveren for having weekends off, and looking forward to at least a year of conversations from Salford with guests on tv monitors.
He's even fallen into line on the mechanics of the move to MediaCityUK. "There is still a bit of uncertainty about what will happen. We are not quite sure of the date and it will be quite complicated – you can't switch off a station in London on Friday and switch it on in Manchester on Saturday". That's what a commercial operation would do, Richard, and dragging it out over months makes it dodgier for the output, and much less pleasant for all involved.
