Perfect for Parfitt ?

An odd interview with Andy Parfitt, Controller of Radio 1, 1Xtra and The Asian Network in The Media Guardian: it's stated that it costs £30m a year to run Radio 1, but only £12m a year is spent on programming. He defends the station for its creativity and cultural contribution; but, apparently, 6Music has to go "for the BBC to do what it has to do". And there's no mention from Parfitt of The Asian Network - nothing, no regrets, nada.

The article describes Andy as a winner in the Strategic Review. A puzzling assertion, considering that "Putting Quality First" proposes the closure of BBC Switch, (prop A Parfitt), The Asian Network (prop A Parfitt), and a closer alignment of Radio 1 and 1Xtra (prop A Parfitt)- often code for increased cost-sharing. The Guardian says the strategy is to make Radio 1 the sole owner of pop music on the BBC - try telling that to Chris Evans and Bob Shennan.
