The movement of top writers between newspapers has always fascinated me. Today Allison Pearson writes what appears to be her farewell column in The Daily Mail - and shares the information that she is being, or has been, treated for depression. I'd have thought her new employers, supposed to be The Daily Telegraph, would have liked that info first - either in person, or, ideally, as a column.
Her replacement at the Mail looks to be one Sandra Parsons ("sassy, smart and very human") who's moved between The Mail and The Times in various roles. According to stats from the excellent research tool, Journalisted, a weekly column is a step up in writing terms - she's only written 35 articles since July 2007 - and the recurring word is "Christmas".
