Exchanges between the BBC and the regional/local press at the Society of Editors' annual conference sound a little taut. David Holdsworth, in charge of English regions for the BBC, said (according to the Guardian) that RSS feeds of regional newspapers would appear on local BBC websites. Let's hope "regional" is what he meant - if there's a promise to link to local papers, in some parts of the UK, those front pages are going to be fairly cluttered with weeklies, free sheets, etc. And why not link to emerging stand-alone "community" sites ?
Then Helen Boaden, Director of News, had an unresolved discussion with John Meehan, Editor of the Hull Daily Mail.
