Enquiring minds

After last week's festival of expenses, salary bands and other responses to Freedom of Information requests at the BBC, there's no obvious sign of a surge of new enquiries at whatdotheyknow.com.

One tries to take the Carrie Gracie (£92k a year) issue further, by asking for the average pay and expenses of a TV Newsreader for 2008. Another ploughs on asking about talent pay, for Jonathan Ross, Terry Wogan, Jools Holland, Eamonn Holmes, and, a little oddly, John Pienaar - and is brusquely rejected. A third, still pending, wants to know about revenue and costs of BBC America. And a fourth wants to know the number of Oxbridge graduates in the BBC's employ.

The BBC is still "giving". Although it won't disclose Esther Rantzen's expenses under the terms of FOI, it happily passes on the information from Esther herself that she never claimed expenses during her BBC employment. And if you want to know the salary band of a BBC job revelling in the title "Football Text Live Commentary Contributors" , it ranges from £29,698 to an extraordinary £50,663.
