Choosing a moderator

I had a weekend off - so I'm sorry about lack of posts. However, the idea that MPs should be allowed to vote for a new Speaker needs to be put into context. In football, would you allow Premiership managers to vote for a chief referee ? Would you allow a six-hour lock-in of MPs to make any form of rational choice ? Do you really think that a Speaker who was once a member of the Freedom Association is a brilliant selection for a democracy ? Searching the FA website (politics not football) today, "Bercow" has a nil return, but I don't think the web always provides the full story...
