It's a bit like major horse races - trainers, owners, punters and bystanders like being talked about for the classics, but eventually the field narrows to some credible runners and riders. So for Head of Multimedia News at the BBC let's stick with Kevin Bakhurst, Craig Oliver and Mary Hockaday (see previous post). Let's add Jon Williams, running world Newsgathering. Let's ruminate on Peter Barron, formerly of Newsnight, now with Google.
Let's dismiss a transfer from Sky. They'd argue they're ahead by a neck in the battle of 24-hour news channels. Towards the end of last year, the BBC News channel had slightly more viewers in "Sky homes" than Sky News - but at the turn of the year and into 2009, Sky News has nudged back in front.
