I'm not in any position to comment on the actions of the BBC Trust and BBC executives yesterday - I simply don't know enough about what happened since Andrew Sachs' agent complained - or, indeed, how the original "offence" was committed. What feels uncomfortable from the outside is one talented person losing their job over what looks like an error of judgement, potentially made by someone else, in broadcasting crude and offensive humour - which is currently more common on UK tv and radio than it has ever been. So I'm afraid this will run and run...
Meanwhile US broadcasters are facing a Supreme Court review of two unpleasant four-letter words - and the judges are getting in a tangle over whether these words should be used in legal argument, which then might be re-broadcast... Hat tips to Gawker and Scotus blog.
