Orf we jolly well go

Let's start with templates. I certainly couldn't have started this blog without one - but I'm already jealous of people who can customise both design and functionality. The BBC is full of templates - for memos, documents, business cases, content production systems - all largely ignored (if you don't like your current content production system, you make a business case for a new one.....). Every now and then someone decides we'll have one logo, one typeface, one style of chair in all receptions, etc. You can see why - but it never lasts. I'd rather hope that one day, in web publishing, it gets more free hand - why can't pages essentially be pdfs with hotspots ?
