David Grossman is David M Granville-Grossman. His father, Kenneth was an eminent consultant psychiatrist; his 1971 book, Recent Advances in Clinical Psychiatry ran to eight editions, and became a standard text book. From 1970 he was psychiatrist to Crown Colony of Gibraltar until his retirement, and spoke fluent Spanish. Rising 60, he aquired a pilot's licence, and clocked up many hours of solo flying.
David's uncle was Leonard Granville-Grossman, a property developer and avid art collector who died in 1994. His wife, Renee, was from Chicago; she was a finalist in the 1961 Miss University of Chicago pageant. Her estate bequeathed funds to the Tate Modern, and they were used to create the Granville-Grossman Members' Bar.
