Funding

Would we be told if Facebook was paying the BBC to produce "Facebook Live" broadcasts ?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Facebook has contracts worth $50m signed with 140 companies and individuals, to drive the idea forward. There are several videos on the BBC News Facebook Live page, most from the USA.

BBC News faces cuts of its own, but BBC Global News can take commercial income. There's a current job ad for a BBC Facebook Live producer, working in Washington, for a "competitive salary + benefits".

"Based in Washington DC, and working under the US Audience Engagement Producer, this position would be responsible for booking guests, scheduling broadcasts, troubleshooting tech woes, encouraging reluctant old-media pros and supporting eager young talent by helping translate their reporting to the Facebook Live format."
