It may not matter, but three people know who met Jeremy Clarkson in a hotel in Mayfair over tea on Monday June 8th. Jeremy Clarkson; the BBC executive (who had his tea paid for by Clarkson); and Carol Vorderman, who was at a neighbouring table, knows the executive and spoke to Clarkson after the executive had left. Clarkson said he had been asked if he would come back to Top Gear.
DG Tony Hall's non-denial to Andrew Marr this morning was that he "had no idea what that was all about".
On Wednesday 11th June, the BBC's Mark Linsey texted Chris Evans, whose recollection of the message was "Would you be interested at all in having a Top Gear conversation?"
