Old soldiers

Yesterday's revelation of a claim, by Michael Laurie, that the Government wanted a dossier to back a war against Iraq, not only contradicts the evidence of Alastair Campbell - it pits soldier against soldier, which is always fun. 

In 2002 and 2003 Major General Michael Laurie was Director General Intelligence Collection, reporting directly to the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Marshall Sir Joe French - another whose evidence claimed the dossier was not "dodgy". 

There is some pleasure to be taken from the fact that the Major General "Mick" Laurie is now chief executive of Crimestoppers UK - "Fight crime without revealing your identity".   That was just what Dr David Kelly was trying to do...
