Untidy

Various bits of the "How The BBC is Run" section of the excellent BBC website were updated yesterday - but there look to be elements of transition.   The Executive Board membership still shows Mark Byford, Peter Salmon and Lucy Adams - though we were told they all step down or leave.  The new, leaner, board hasn't, apparently, started.  Nine BBC executives and four non-executive directors attended the most recently minuted meeting.

The organogram now has the DG's Office and BBC Direction Group at its heart - featuring 20 executives. "News Group" replaces "Journalism", and will have 15 members when there's a new Director BBC Wales. The Operations Group has an extraordinary 29 members - and I rather suspect Roger Mosey, as Director London 2012 and David Jordan, as Controller, Editorial Policy might be a bit surprised to have ended up there, after the end of "Journalism". (Update: May 5 2011 - Total now 27 - Roger and David have been "moved", in these diagrams, back to the News Group. David is also a member of the BBC Direction Group.)

It's not a "structure" that O&D people would like.  At BBC North, Ralph Rivera, recently formally elevated to the Executive Group, "reports" to Peter Salmon, due to step down from the same - or does he ?  Barbara Slater, Director of Sport, and Ian Haythornthwaite, Finance and Sports Rights Director, North are in the group - but is that where financial approval for spending on sport sits ?  In finance, Dominic Coles is featured as Chief Operating Officer, News Group - yet is not listed on the News Group - where sits Richard Dawkins, Finance Director, News.   Loose ends or what ?
