Chipping away

The BBC has lost live coverage rights to the first two days of the US Masters - to Sky.  The two broadcasters will share the final two weekend days.  The BBC has had exclusive UK rights since 1986 - so presumably they were outbid.  It's a decision that would have gone right up to the DG, so Director of Sport, Barbara Slater is left with little to say to golf fans. Next year, from Sports' Salford base, she'll be joined by new finance chief Ian Haythornthwaite, to front up these sort of negotiations.  But it's the thin edge of the "wedge".  Odds have to be that if the audiences find their way to Sky in sufficient numbers on Thursday and Friday, the Murdoch team will get exclusive rights to the whole tournament in the next deal.

Meanwhile on radio, RAJAR interviewers have just finished their data collection for Quarter 3, with figures to be released on October 28th.   So we'll see what impact Talksport's exclusive Premier League commentaries have had on 5Live's figures.  I suspect many more listeners will have now added Talk to their push buttons - these are the matches involved....
