Bits and bobs

Half-term weeks are not usually busy in the semi-academic timetable of public service broadcasting, but there are some odds and ends I missed last week.

The BBC flat-rate £450 pay rise indicates management and unions talking common sense. Press Gazette.

The BBC Trust decision to partially uphold a complaint against Today, over an item on Tibet, which was deemed "fair enough" by a full BBC-side complaint investigation, will fester the rift between the parallel teams of adjudicators. You call take your own view by listening from just after 0730 here in the Today archive. It's not a discussion, it's a pre-record and response, hosted by Sarah Montague. The Trust felt Professor Barry Sautman, was insufficiently "signposted". He sounds spooky enough to me.

The BBC will be annoyed to lose David Lloyd, one if its "fresh blood" team of regional editors, to Phil Riley's new clutch of Midland radio stations. Mr Lloyd has been in Hull for just a month. The Guardian

Pat Younge, an engaging tv exec is back on the UK market, after four years with The Travel Channel in the USA, and I expect him to turn up back at the BBC 'ere long. The Guardian.
