Ray-dee-oh 4

"We want to find something that brings the BBC’s world-class reputation for factual programme-making together with a highly accessible, US-inspired storytelling tone and sensibility. It must appeal to listeners in the US alongside UK podcast listeners who consume the best American factual series."

Thus the invitation to tender for a new history show on Radio 4, demonstrating that the drive for the Yankee dollar is affecting BBC Radio as well as tv. The result of the competition, for part of an umbrella strand, 'History Re-imagined' is expected before the end of the month.

"The presenter(s) of this programme is/are completely central to its success. They will need to appeal to a global audience, and in particular to listeners in the US, with an accessible intelligence and the ability to draw out both human stories and the wider concepts behind them."

"This title is intended for global distribution, and commercialisation via BBC Studios"
