It's a no from...

Ofcom bring lots of process and judicial verbiage to its decisions on what the BBC can and cannot do, but, in the end, you can imagine them drafting a ruling and Lord Grade saying "Yeh, that looks about right". 

So, provisionally, there will be no "Radio 2 extension" aimed a re-capturing those born in the 50s and 60s whom the revised Radio 2 put in the shedding ring ten years ago. That space is left to Boom Radio. 

And there will, provisionally, be no round-the-clock Radio 5Live Sports Extra, padded with sports podcasts and re-runs of existing commentary. Ofcom decided not just to ignore the BBC's research that younger C2DEs would appreciate it, but dismissed it out of hand. Pretty hard cheese, that.
