Job creation

Launched at the end of November 2023, the World Service podcast "The Global Story" was aimed at cashing in on two brands - The BBC Global News Podcast and Newscast.

The Global News Podcast started in 2007, essentially as a daily 30 minutes news bulletin, largely constructed from the most recent half-hour of news on the World Service. Gradually, presentation became a little more relaxed, and the best audio from around BBC News programmes was added. It now tops the league table of programmes downloaded around the world from BBC. "The Global Story" was to be a weekday companion, more of a discussion of the day's top story, like Newscast, and hosted on a regular basis by Katya Adler.  In the most recent charts, it features at No 13 from the BBC, just behind The Archers.

But Katya doesn't feature much. In recent weeks we've have a lot of Jonny Dymond, some Lucy Hockings, and quite a bit of the new BBC Washington team of Catriona Perry and Sumi Somaskanda.

Now it seems, cash has been found to restore a dedicated presenter line-up, and yes, it's part of conquering America: "The BBC is investing in The Global Story to become the equivalent of the “front page” of the BBC in North America." So you can apply for two presenter vacancies, at £125k each.
