I've seen the future

The writing has been on the wall for Sportsday for some time. The half hour sports roundup on the BBC News Channel at 6.30pm GMT doesn't get an outing in schedules outside the UK, where the news machine simply rolls on.

TV Sport 'news' has always been tricky for the BBC. Fans tune in for 'action', but news access is limited, and producers regard stills and results captions as something of a failure. The Salford team never did much about American football, ice hockey and baseball til it got to the very biggest games.

New boss Alex Kay-Jelski is all about website first, and doesn't mind clickbait and plugs.  Among this morning's 'front page' stories:  "Sutton's predictions v Divorce singer Felix". Football pundit Chris Sutton "takes on Divorce singer and guitarist Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, who is an Arsenal fan. Divorce's debut album, Drive to Goldenhammer, is out now. The alt-country quartet are touring the UK until 9 April."

Not much further down the page: 'We were in Vegas...' Which pundits have matching tattoos on their bottoms?

That's the digital future, eh, Alex ?
