Programmes of distinction

BBC1's new pop behemoth Sounds Like Friday Night is already offering repeat appearances, and it's only at show 9. Last night saw performances by Craig David (also featured in show 4) and Charlie Puth (also featured in show 1).

The programme is produced by Fulwell 73, James Corden's company, fronted by Ben Winston. Craig David was a guest on James Corden's Late Late Show in the States last month; Charlie Puth has been on the programme three times.

Last night's Sounds Like Friday Night enticed few in from the nice weather: according to the overnight figures, it had an average audience of 1.32m (8.5% share).

Meanwhile, the latest attempt to provide popular entertainment on BBC1, The Button, launched at 8.30pm. Think Gogglebox meets Taskmaster and loses. Average audience: 1.16m (6.5%) share.
