Too difficult

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley is aping her mentor Theresa May in decision-making. She won't now make a call on whether or not to refer the Fox-Sky takeover for a six-month competition investigation before the Parliamentary break - meaning it can't start til September, and thus can't make a determination til 2018.

Fox says “The criticism of the independent regulator [Ofcom] and repeated efforts to politicize the quasi-judicial process are deeply disappointing and surprising.”

  • The dangers of Bradley's brinkmanship are highlighted in this long piece by David Elstein. He points out that an easy way of solving the Ofcom concerns about media plurality is for Murdoch to close loss-making Sky News.....
