The papers are already getting wound up about BBC talent pay, ahead of Wednesday's publication of the annual report - a bunfest for Philip Davies, Philip Hollobone, The Taxpayer's Alliance and sundry other deep thinkers about media employment policies.
It will be uncomfortable - I reckon, between 'talent' and 'senior management', we'll have a total of over 200 names. There will be issues about gender balance, but the best sport to be had will be mini-league tables. You try placing these in order of salary...
John Humphrys
Nick Robinson
Justin Webb
Sarah Montague
Mishal Husain
Huw Edwards
Fiona Bruce
Sophie Raworth
George Alagiah
Gary Lineker
Matt Baker
Alan Yentob
Sue Barker
Monty Don
Louise Minchin
Dan Walker
Charlie Stayt
Naga Munchetty
Of course, it won't be clear, as talent works across different programmes - from Mishal Husain doing weekend tv newsreading, to Louise Minchin doing Friday You and Yours. At and around £150k, it'll be the first time many in News have been clear where they stand in the pecking order. Keith Blackmore, James Harding's fixer and deal-maker, may be taking the day off....
