Further to my prowl round the latest disclosure of BBC expenses, a correspondent writes that £230 buys "Heads of Editorial Departments" a year's membership of The Society of Editors.
BBC News Managing Editor Keith Blackmore, brought from The Times by his boss James Harding, has claimed £230 for a unnamed membership - it can't be for membership of a professional organisation, though, because that's explicitly banned by current BBC expenses policy. You can't imagine Mr Harding signing that off, can you ?
Section XII item 2 applies - in force since 2010
2. Subscriptions to professional organisations
The BBC will not meet the cost for an employee to be a member of any professional organisation, including
the RTS and the RAM. The only exceptions are necessary practising certificates for medical and legal staff.
