Lord Williams

Lord Williams of Baglan outlasted the BBC Trust - but not by much. The former World Service hack and Asia specialist (1984-1991) has died, aged 67. He became a cross-bench life peer in 2011, and joined the BBC as international trustee, as Auntie moved to take full financial responsibility for sustaining the World Service from the Foreign Office.

So far, there's no obvious sign that his expertise has been replaced with the new unitary Board - maybe Sir David Clementi will light on somebody with an international perspective as he hunts for non-executives to represent the interests of Wales and Northern Ireland.
