Bristling

Hacks working overnight in the dim crevices of Broadcasting House will have enjoyed the insights of Sir Craig Oliver, former Government spinner and all-round cheeky monkey, on the Radio 4 Media Show yesterday.

He quoted an unnamed senior BBC journalist describing 7am bulletins, on radio, tv and online, as 'bandit country', producing errors which have to be corrected at 8am. Sir Craig said it was a mystery to him why no senior figure oversees this important output - and claimed no-one in real authority checks the 8am bulletin on the Chris Evans Show, with one of the biggest news audiences of the day.

Perhaps the hacks can be encouraged into fewer mistakes by, say, removing a few of the allowances they get for working these funny hours.
