Former Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has been enlightened about the true price of a visit to 2013 MTV Europe Awards. He thought it cost £534.82, from an email from hosts Viacom about 'his attendance', and thus was below the level at which he should declare hospitality.

Viacom have reviewed the bill, with the help of solicitors, and stated that the full cost of flights, hotel and show tickets for Mr Whittingdale and his +1, was really £1,529.07. Mr Whittingdale has apologised for a breach of the expenses code, and the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards now deems the matter "rectified".
