Regulatory

Whilst most of us will be speculating on potential casualties from Cameron's Cabinet today, spare a thought for the BBC Trust 25.

Ofcom boss Sharon White indicated to the Guardian yesterday that she expected to hire 40-odd staff to cover her new responsibilities in regulating the BBC from 2017.  The BBC Trust Unit has around 65 staff, some of them part-time, 70% of them women, earning between them just over £4m over a year - a generous average of £61k.

Not all of the 65 deal with standards and complaints, so not all will get berths with Sharon. The BBC Unitary Board might need some more apparatchiks than currently support the Executive, but an additional 25 would be a bit rich in the current hair-shirted climate...
