Happy 59th birthday to Mark Thompson, former BBC DG and now CEO of the New York Times.
The company's results for Q2, out this week, show a 7% drop in digital advertising revenue (there was a 1% drop the previous quarter). Digital-only subscriptions rose by 51k, and the crossword apps added 16k.
But the bottom line was hit by $12m in pay-offs, largely down to closing the Paris operation. And next quarter there's a further hit of $11m in the pipe-line, to cover another 80 redundancy deals.
