Elegant

Here's a text book BBC HR exit strategy.

Head of Specialist Factual Commissioning Martin Davidson will be leaving the BBC in mid-August, with Tom McDonald becoming Head of Natural History and Specialist Factual Commissioning, Television. (Thus the post of Head of Specialist Factual Commissioning is no longer required, and Mr Davidson will be entitled to redundancy. He does have broken service, joining the BBC in 1988, then having a flirtation with big indie RDF from 2001, before returning the comforting bosom of Auntie in 2005.)

Deepjoy too for Tom, who will be entitled to a raise - there's clearly a major difference between his old role, as Head of Natural History and Specialist Factual Formats Commissioning, and the new Role as Head of Natural History and Specialist Factual Commissioning.

Meanwhile Martin can now join wife Janice Hadlow, former BBC2 Controller, made redundant from the post of Controller Seasons and Special Projects in January, in comfortable retirement. Really quite comfortable.
